Las Vegas

Wayne Cannon (33-14) of Oklahoma City Oklahoma defeated Ed Daley (26-18) of Las Vegas Nevada four games to none in the world series.  A long time tournament strat player, this is Cannon's first world championship. 

To reach the finals Cannon defeated Wes Smith  (27-20) of Oakland California four games to two in the semi-finals and John Lemek  (24-19) of Hyde Park New York four games to three in the quarter-finals. 

Cannon's first two picks were Santana and Helton.  His most used lineup was:

Daley defeated former world champion Steve Davidson (26-22) of La Habra California four games to two in the other semi-final.  Daley defeated Jim Jasper (29-16) of Chicago Illinois four games to none in the quarter-finals.

 Davidson defeated Tom Anderson (22-14) of Moreno Valley California four games to three in the quarter-finals.  Smith defeated Ben Swoboda (26-13) of Ann Arbor Michigan four games to two in the other quarter-final.

The seven division winners advanced to the round of eight.  There were in the order of seeding;  Cannon, Jasper, Anderson, Smith, Swoboda, Davidson and Daley.

In Division A, Bill Fenlon, Steve Davidson and John Lemek tied for first.   Davidson won the division on best head to head record.

In Division B, Bryan Lewis and Wes Smith tied for first.  Smith won the division on best head to head record.

In Division C, Ed Killmer, Ed Daley and Ritchie Wain tied for first.  Daley  won the division on best head to head record.

Shootouts

The seven second place finishers competed in a 7-way sudden death shoot out.

Bryan Lewis had the best 2nd place record and received a bye in the quarter-finals.

Gene Abood defeated Dave Suderman, John Lemek defeated Ed Killmer and Willy Dominguez defeated Kevin Heth in the quarter-finals.

Lemek defeated Abood and Lewis defeated Dominguez in the semi-finals.

Lemek defeated Lewis in the shootout finals.

Jim Jasper edges out Paul Brownlee 140-130 to win the Central Regional points championship.

Mike Kman, Jim Jasper, Dan Martin and Jim Galloway have guaranteed drafting positions in the Papal Room at the worlds.  The results from the south are still not in yet, but  they will not affect the division selectors.

The wild card positions are in order John Christie 139, Paul Brownlee 131, Vic Horvath 131, Jeff Desnoyers 122, Bruce Layton 112, Bill Fenlon 110, Ben Leong 108 and Mark Van Klaveren 106.

We have had either six or seven divisions for the the last three worlds.  That means we will probably need either six or seven division selectors this years.

All Papal Room drafters must be ready to draft at 10 PM on January 12.   Any drafters not able to draft at 10 PM will be replaced by the player with the next highest point total.  Note: due to travel problems, in the past, the ninth or tenth seeded player has drafted a division.

Orlando South Regional

Don Shults (17-13) defeated Willy Dominguez (16-14) four games to two in the world series.   This is Shults first Star Tournament win.

Shults defeated Sal Caridi in one semi-finals and Dominguez defeated Chuck Kirkwood in the other semi-final.

Los Angeles West Regional

Dan Martin (22-10) of San Diego California defeated Charles Gonzalez (18-13) of Berkeley California four games to none in the world series.  Martin now has two lifetime Star Tournaments wins, both regionals.

Martin defeated Wes Smith three games to none in one semi-final.  Gonzalez defeated Peter Waterstreet in the other semi-final.

Smith and Gonzalez won their divisions.

Martin also won the West Regional Points Championship with 119.  Coming from behind and edging out Mark Van Klaveren with 106 and Mick Van Valkenburg with 102.

Boston East Regional

John Lemek (24-10) of Hyde Park New York defeated Mark Giddings (20-14) of West Sand Lake New York four games to two in the world series.  Lemek now has four lifetime Star Tournament wins.

Lemek defeated Will Roberts three games to one in one semi-final.  Giddings defeated John Christie three games to one in the other semi-final.

Lemek and Christie won their divisions.

Mike Kman won the East Region Points Championship with 158.  Finishing second was John Christie with 139 and Jeff Desnoyers with 113 finished third.

Boston

Jeff Desnoyers (22-13) of Torrington Connecticut defeated Michel Gilbert (22-13) of Quebec City Quebec four games to one in the world series.  Desnoyers now has two lifetime Star Tournament wins.

Hank Smith (23-12) of Torrance California defeated Indy Parker (20-15) of Indianapolis Indiana four games to three in the world series.  Smith now has five Star Tournament wins.

Newark Delaware

Bruce Layton (23-13) of Ithaca New York defeated John Christie (19-18) of Philadelphia Pennsylvania four games to none in the world series.  Layton now has seven Star Tournament wins.

Layton defeated Mike Kman in the semi-finals three games to one and Christie defeated Dave Hess three games to two in the other semi-final.

Pittsburg

Bruce Layton (21-13) of Ithaca New York defeated Bill Fenlon (18-15) of Green Oaks Illinois four games to one in the world series.  Layton now has eight Star Tournaments wins.

Fenlon defeated Paul Brownlee three games to one in one semi-final and Layton defeated Mike Nowakowski three games to two in the other semi-final.

San Jose

Peter Waterstreet (19-15) of San Jose California defeated Dale Troyani (19-15) of Phoenix Arizona four games to three in the world series.  Waterstreet now has two lifetime wins.

Waterstreet defeated Stan Suderman three games to none in one semi-final and Troyani defeated Robert Poen three games to none in the other semi-final.  Suderman and Poen won their respective divisions.  After a twelve man draft the group was split into two playing groups of six.  Poen won his division despite playing in his first ever Star Tournament.

John Perez (19-10) of Revere Massachusetts defeated Brian Smith (16-13) of Sand Lake New York four games to one in the world series.  Perez now has five lifetime wins.

Sal Caridi (21-14) of Ormand Beach Florida defeated Ed Killmer (20-13) of Tampa Florida four games to two in the world series.  Caridi now has six lifetime wins.

Caridi defeated Willy Dominguez three games to two in one semi-final and Killmer defeated Jim Galloway three games to none in the other semi-final.

Steve Seal (19-10) of Dillon Colorado defeated Ed Daley (16-13) of Las Vegas Nevada three games to two in the world series.   Seal now has two lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

Willy Dominguez (17-12) of Coral Springs Florida defeated Ed Killmer (20-9) of Tampa Florida four games to two in the world series.  Dominguez now has three lifetime wins.

Vic Horvath (23-12) of Detroit Michigan defeated Greg Jeffrey (20-14) of Chicago Illinois four games to two in the world series.  Horvath now has four lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

Horvath defeated Brian Smith three games to two in the semi-finals and Jeffrey defeated John Perez three games to one in the other semi-final.

Horvath and Perez won their divisions.

Doc Harris (25-7) of McKinney Texas defeated Ed Killmer (21-14) of Tampa Florida four games to one in the world series. Harris now has two lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

Harris defeated Phil Verheul three games to none in the semi-final and Killmer defeated Travis Tallant three games to two in the other semi-final.

Tallant defeated Verheul to finish third.

Peter Lewis passed away April 27th of this year at the age of 61 in San Francisco.  Peter was a long time tournament and league strat player.  He won many tournaments both in the old days and in Star Tournaments.

Harrisburg

Devon Eckhart (22-12) defeated Don Leong (19-15) of Laurel Maryland in the world series.  This is Eckhart's first Star Tournaments win. 

Eckhart defeated Mark Giddings three games to two in one semi-final and Leong defeated Mike Kman three games to two in the other semi-final.

Orlando

Jim Galloway (27-5) of Wake Forrest North Carolina defeated Willy Dominguez of Coral Springs Florida four games to none in the world series.  Galloway now has three lifetime Star Tournament wins.   Galloway narrowly missed having the best all time Star Tournaments record of 28-5 held by Pete Nelson.

Galloway defeated Mark Huaman three games to one in the semi-finals and Dominguez defeated Carl Bible three games to two in the other semi-final.

Chicago

Mike Cohen (23-11) of Coram New York defeated Eric Wayne (19-14) of Southfield Michigan four games to three in the world series.  Cohen now has three lifetime tournament wins.

Cohen defeated Kevin Heth three games to two in one semi-final and Wayne defeated Mark Delpopolo three games to one in the other semi-final.

We had 23 entrants with truly a "National" feel as we had 11 states (12 if you count Jim Jasper's winter residence in Arizona) represented as well as 2 countries as Joshua (the "Skokie Wolfman") Shapiro visited us from Holland.


Mike won the "High" Division with Hank Smith defeating Don Leong in a shootout for 2nd place.

Eric won a 3-way tie for 1st in the "Middle" Division defeating Kevin Heth and Bill Fenlon in shootouts.  Kevin defeated Bill in a shootout for 2nd place in the division.

Mark won the "Low" Division with Paul Brownlee finishing 2nd. 

Kevin defeated Paul and Hank to advance to the Semi's of the 1st Place Bracket.


In the 3rd Place Bracket Dave Hegg and Hank split 3rd/4th and Mark and Kevin split 5th/6th

Oklahoma City

Wayne Cannon (24-11) defeated Mark Delpopolo (22-13) three games to one in the world series.   Cannon now has three lifetime tournament wins.

Cannon defeated Scott Kuklinski two games to one in the semi-finals and Delpopolo defeated Mike Parker two games to one in the other semi-final.

Mick Van Valkenburg (23-13) of San Jose California defeated Dale Troyani (21-14) of Phoenix Arizona four games to three in the world series.  Van Valkenburg now has five lifetime Star Tournament wins.

Van Valkenburg defeated Steve Baldeaux three games to two in the semi-finals.  Troyani defeated Steve Davidson three games to one in the semi-finals.

Van Valkenburg and Davidson won their divisions.

Mike Kman (24-7) of  Harrisburg Pennsylvania defeated Gene Abood (17-14) of South Plainfield New Jersey four games to none in the world series.  Kman has now won three tournaments this year and five lifetime.

Adam Weissbarth (21-12) of Sante Fe New Mexico defeated Bob Smith (17-15) of Anaheim California four games to one in world series.  This is Weissbarth's first ever Star Tournament win.

Weissbarth defeated Steve Garrett Sr. three games to one in the semi-finals.  Smith defeated Steve Baldeaux three games to none in the other semi-final. 

Smith defeated Stan Suderman in the shootout finals.  Bob Smith defeated Hank Smith in the shootout  semi-finals.  Suderman defeated Marshall Palmer in the other shootout semi-final.  Bob Smith, Suderman, Hank Smith and Palmer all tied for second in their division.

Garrett and Baldeaux won their divisions.

Denver

Mike Meszaros (18-8) of Billings Montana defeated Rodger Burton (15-12) four games to two in the world series.  Rodger Burton defeated David Atkinson in a shootout for second place.

Philadelphia

Ben Leong  (22-14) of Gaithersburg Maryland defeated Mike Kman (20-17) of Harrisburg Pennsylvania four games to two in the world series.  Ben Leong, the all time leader in the number of Star Tournaments won, achieved his 14th.

Port St. Lucie

Errol Dennis (22-13) defeated Jim Galloway (19-16) four games to three in an exciting World Series.  Four of the games were decided by one run with the winning team scoring the deciding run in it's last at bat.  Two of those games were decided by walk-off two-out two-base errors.  The seventh and deciding game was a 4-3 affair with the winning run scoring in the bottom of the eighth.  Dennis now has six lifetime wins.
 
Galloway's strong showing moves him into the points lead in the South Region.
 
Ed Killmer (15-13) finished third and Carl Bible (14-14) was fourth.

Jeff Desnoyers (24-13) of Boston Massachusetts defeated Don Leong (20-13) of Laurel Maryland four games to two in the world series.   This is Desnoyers first Star Tournaments win.

Vic Horvath (20-12) of Detroit Michigan defeated Jim Jasper (19-13) of Chicago Illinois four games to two in the world series.  Horvath now has three lifetime wins.

Secaucus

John Christie (21-13) of Wilmington Delaware defeated John Ciabattari (16-19) of Clifton New York four games to two in the world series.  Christie has won two tournaments in the same region two weeks apart and now has three lifetime.

Ciabattari defeated Will Roberts three games to two in the one semi-final and Christie defeated Yaz Usami three games to one in the other semi-finals.  Usami and Roberts won their dvisions.  Usami at 20-4 had the best division records ever recorded in Star Tournaments

Philadelphia

John Christie (27-13) of Wilmington Delaware defeated Mike Kman (22-16) of Enola Pennsylvania four games to three in the world series.  Christie now has two lifetime tournament wins.

Los Angeles

Stan Roberts (23-12) of San Pedro California defeated Tom Anderson (19-16) four games to two in the world series.  This is Roberts first Star Tournaments win.

Anderson defeated his brother Marshall Palmer three games to one in one semi-final and Roberts defeated Dan Martin three games to two in the other semi-final.

Anderson defeated Mark Van Klaveren in the shootout finals.  Anderson defeated Matt Trask in one shootout semi-final.  Van Klaveren defeated Steve Baldeaux in the other shootout semi-final.  The shootouts broke a four-way tie for second in the division.

Palmer and Martin won their divisions.

Chicago

Jim Jasper  (21-9) of Chicago Illinois defeated Paul Brownlee (18-11) of Park Forrest Illinois four games to none in the world series.  Jasper has now tournaments in back to back weeks and has four lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

Jasper defeated Mike Parker three games to one in the semi-finals.  Brownlee defeated Rany Jazayerli three games to none in the other semi-final.  Jazayerli defeated Ben Leong in a shoot out to make the semi-finals.  Brownlee and Parker won their respective divisions.

Parker defeated Scott Kuklinski two games to one to win the third place bracket,  Mark Delpopolo and Jazayerli finish in a tie for fifth.

Cooperstown

Mike Kman (22-14) of Enola Pennsylvania defeated Don Leong (21-15) of Laurel Maryland four games to three in the world series.  Kman has now won the first two East region tournaments and has four lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

Kman defeated Paul Ferraro in the semi-finals and Leong defeated Jeff Desnoyers in the other semi-final.

Mark Van Klaveren (26-8) of Phoenix Arizona defeated Bill Katona (19-15) of Riverside California four games to one in the world series.  Van Klaveren now has five lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

Van Klaveren defeated Mick Van Valkenburg three games to two in the semi-finals.  Katona defeated Vic Horvath three games to two in the semi-finals.

Hard luck loser Van Valkenburg has now won or tied for his division in six consecutive tournaments without winning the tournament.

Newark, Delaware

Mike Kman (22-15) of Enola Pennsylvania defeated Paul DiSabatino (22-14) of Wilmington Delaware four games to three in the world series.   Kman now has three lifetime victories.

Kman defeated Greg Jeffrey three games to one in the semi-finals.  Paul DiSabatino defeated Ben Leong three games to none in the semi-finals. 

DiSabatino and Jeffrey won their respective divisions.
